Friday the 13th today, Valentine's Day tomorrow: seems like a perfect opportunity for anonymous comments!

Have at it, chaps, but keep it kind.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I remember the exact moment when I realised it, as well, I was a kid, and I suddenly thought, shit, some day I'm going to die and I won't have found out about everything that interests me. It made me feel dizzy.

One of the Sunday supplements used to run a column about books that states that the average person reads 3000 books in their lifetime. ONLY 3000! And I've just spent a week re-reading The Historian!

3000?! I haven't even read all the books in my flat! O_O

Almost all the books in my flat are books that I haven't read - the others go back to the library or out the door. I'm only averaging 14 books a year these days, which means I've probably only got a few hundred books left in me, especially if I have kids...?

I, uh, keep most of mine and I re-read a lot of them (I average about 100-120 a year, I think, but must re-read 30-40). I'm secretly building a library...

Yeah I used to keep a lot of them, but I try to be judicious, and I don't do a lot of rereading. I keep mostly the non-fiction that I can't fly through the way I can with fiction. I guess I spend a lot of time reading news online and some magazines, and other activities that take time I would have spent reading when I was younger and we weren't all online all the time... Also, reading + knitting is hard.

I try to get rid of as many as I can, and I did give away most of my doubles (different translations etc) to people who would enjoy them but I just can't help buying more books.

I have two hours of commuting a day and no other real hobbies so I have a fair bit of time for reading. Plus, it's the only thing I find really relaxing. :)

YES - the commuting. I actually wish I had a commute. I'd be incredibly well read AND have beautiful sweaters.

You can have my commute! I spend most of the journey there half asleep, drooling on my boyfriend's shoulder. I do manage to read on the way home, and sometimes in the morning but I'd much rather be in bed!

As a kid I used to borrow my parent's library cards and take gigantic stacks of books home to read and I would worry because THERE JUST ISN'T ENOUGH TIME.
