The heat! Boots would be impossible here - I find having my feet enclosed in 45 degree weather is absolutely horrendous; I like to be able to slip my shoes off under my desk in the office - and trainers, as they're largely fabric, get absolutely filthy very quickly. I did have a pair of fake leather trainers last time I was here, but I found I never wore them because they were way too hot.
In terms of shoes available here, it's mostly leather sandals and ballet flats for women, and leather sandals or leather slip-ons for men. I've seen trainers in shops but no one other than my students wears them (and my students seem impervious to heat - many of the girls wear skinny jeans even in the mid-40s, which is unimaginable to me).
